Unexpectedly it was an easy transition
from Chicago to Gurgaon. Lot of apprehension to move to India even though it
was the place I was born and lived for 25 years of my early life.
But now I have a 6 year old
son who had visited India 9 times in little life of his but doesn't know how
life is different in India from his birth country-US.
My quest for where and what
for kids started as soon as we settled down.
So where should he be going
for soccer-places we found around Gurgaon were:
- FCB Escola- It is affiliated to Football
Club of Barcelona(2012 World cup and European champions)
- Baichung
Bhutia Football Schools-A football initiative by Baichung
Bhutia(India's renowned football player)
Now once the soccer academy
is finalized I have to look for places like libraries to get the books for my
book worm. Not many options available for that but some I found are:
- Library at
home-- it is a decent option with only online option to reserve
books and home delivery. The feeling of visiting a library and look around
is missing in it. Also there is no time window for delivery of the book
which actually means you have to be at home whole day waiting for books.
- Toypedia-Toys
and Book Library in Galleria is another good option where you can rent
toys and books.
Since my son is into golf and so is his
dad,to have a place to play Golf is must for us. Gurgaon has several Golf courses
available, depending on one's budget one can choose from:
1. TERI golf course-A short distance past
the DLF on the Gurgaon-Faridabad motorway, is a 9-hole course settled into one
corner of The Energy and Resources Institute or TERI campus. One thing is for
sure the narrow fairways and small greens are there to help improve your game.
Must say it is decently maintained.
2. Unitech
Karma Lakelands- This is a work of Aussie Phil Ryan.
It comprises of undulating fairways and lots of water amid high-end villas
3. The
Industrial Model Township (IMT) in Manesar-It is a government maintained course
with several well-placed bunkers and large wastelands.
The quest for good finds for helping my son grow mentally and physically is still on.
